This Sunday, Adam and I will each be walking to support Friendship Circle of San Diego, a cause that is very dear to me personally. We are asking our friends and family to please pledge your support of our walk by making a contribution and sharing this page with others.
The Friendship Walk is the main fundraising event for the wonderful non-profit organization, Friendship Circle of San Diego.
Friendship Circle of San Diego began in 2005 under the leadership of Mrs. Elisheva Green. She saw the need for the organization because of her oldest son Danny, who was born with partial Trisomy 18, which is similar to Downs Syndrom. As the name implies, Friendship Circle's mission is to create friendship in the lives of individuals with special needs and their families, as well as those facing isolation. Through their many different recreational, social, and educational programs, FC aims to promote an inclusive community that values all individuals, regardless of the challenges they face, while providing an opportunity to become a contributing member of society. In addition to helping those in need, Friendship Circle also enriches its vast network of volunteers, many of whom are teenagers. Through the Teen Leadership Program, caring teens volunteer their free time to befriend a special needs individual. (My sister's childhood best friend, Jenny Poliakoff, was a founding and core volunteer in this program. To read more about Jenny’s contributions see friendshipwalksd.com/Static/history .) They create lasting friendships, become advocates for their new friends, expand their social circle and learn valuable life skills, all while having fun with an otherwise isolated individual. Tragically, in 2018, Danny Green passed away after complications from an emergency surgery. In his memory, Mrs. Green created a new branch of Friendship circle called Dan's Place, a pop-up restaurant which gives adults and young adults in the special needs community the chance to learn vocational skills in the hospitality industry.
Dan had the most kind and genuine heart and loved to invite guests to his house to share a meal, a trait he learned from his parents. I am very fortunate to have known Danny and to experience the generosity and warmth of the entire Green family. I am so proud to call them mentors and to follow their example of always helping others, by supporting this amazing organization.
Thank you for your support in accomplishing (and hopefully exceeding!) our fundraising goal. Every dollar we raise will advance Friendship Circle's important cause, and any amount is greatly appreciated!
